Video Dubbing Module

    This dubbing task helped me improve several important language skills, especially pronunciation, fluency, and confidence in speaking. Throughout the project, I felt that all three areas were strengthened because I had to practice repeatedly and pay attention to how the character spoke in the original movie. Working with my team members, Shining, Howard, and Eunice, also played a big role in supporting my oral development. 

At the beginning, each of us searched for different clips, and we finally chose Kung Fu Panda 1 because it’s a well-known film and the scene we picked was perfect for four people to dub. The translation of the script was done by me, Shining, and Eunice, while Howard was responsible for adding the background music and sound effects. Everyone contributed something valuable, and we worked together closely to complete the final product. To improve our speaking, we listened to the original English version many times and tried to mimic the characters’ pronunciation and intonation.

    I noticed a clear change in my speaking performance from Phase 1 to the final presentation. In the beginning, I was simply repeating lines, but later on, I started acting like the character by adding emotion and using more natural intonation. The most difficult part of the process was trying to match our voices with the characters’ mouth movements, which required careful timing and a lot of practice. Another big challenge was the video editing. I first used CapCut to add subtitles, but accidently I used some paid functions, which meant I couldn’t download the video without paying. So, I switched to PowerDirector, but the free version had a huge watermark that could distract the audience. In the end, I solved this problem by using screen recording. 

    During the project, I also used ChatGPT to help with translation. It was very useful because it provided different suggestions and helped me make the subtitles sound more natural. Overall, I believe this dubbing experience was very meaningful, and I would consider using this method in my own future teaching. I think it is a creative and engaging way to help students develop speaking skills. In the future, I would follow a similar process but make adjustments to suit my students’ language levels and learning needs.
