Digital Storytelling Module

Working on this digital storytelling project with my partner, Snowy, was a great experience. We began by discussing the theme and plot of our story together. Once we agreed on the direction, we divided the work based on our strengths. I focused on generating the images and voice using AI tools, while Snowy was in charge of organizing the materials in Book Creator. We used the same account so that we could both edit and finalize the project efficiently. This experience taught me the importance of understanding each team member’s strengths when collaborating. Knowing who is good at using AI tools and who has strong organizational skills can help divide tasks more effectively and achieve better results as a team. Of course, we faced challenges during our collaboration. Both of us had busy schedules, which made it difficult to find time to work together. However, we still arranged time to meet face to face and discuss our project. These meetings helped us stay on the same page and support each other throughout the process.

In terms of digital tools, we used several platforms creatively. We used ChatGPT to brainstorm topics related to the Sustainable Development Goals (SDGs) and explored story ideas. Once we had a storyline, I generated AI images based on our characters and settings. Although using ChatGPT for image generation was convenient, it came with technical challenges. The prompts had to be very clear and specific, and sometimes I had to revise them step by step to get consistent results, especially when trying to keep the main character’s appearance the same in every image.

We also used Book Creator to present the story and add layout, images, and text. I found background music from YouTube and embedded it into the story, which really enhanced the final version. I’m especially proud of the visuals and sound. We didn’t use hand-drawn images, but the AI-generated pictures saved a lot of time and still looked great. However, we did face one major technical issue on presentation day: the sound device didn’t work properly, so we had to play the voice audio directly from a laptop. Despite this challenge, we adapted quickly and still managed to present our project successfully.

The most meaningful part of this project for me was learning how to use several different digital tools like ChatGPT, ElevenLabs, and Book Creator to create a story book. It was exciting to apply these tools in a creative way, and I now see large potential for using them in my future teaching. This experience has inspired me to move beyond traditional textbooks and try integrating more technology into my lessons. I believe that allowing students to create their own stories using these tools can make language learning more engaging and meaningful. I look forward to giving my students the opportunity to explore, create, and express themselves using digital storytelling in the future.
